The Fourth Conference of Peking University US Alumni Associations will be held in Houston, Texas from Saturday, June 27 to Sunday, June 28, 2009. Delegates from Peking University, led by President Zhou Qifeng and former President Xu Zhihong, and representatives from the major Peking University Alumni Associations across North America will gather to cherish friendship and promote cooperations. All Peking University alumni and friends are cordially invited to attend the conference.
Founded in 1898, Peking University was originally known as the Imperial University of Peking and was China’s the first national university. A long time leader in higher education and scientific research, Peking University has continually played the essential role of pioneers in the course of China's modernization.
Houston is the 4th largest city in the US and there are hundreds of Peking University alumni working and living here. 2009 is the 30th anniversary of normatlization of the China-US relations and Houston is proud of being part of the process. During Deng Xiaoping’s historical visit to the US in 1979, he visited a rodeo in Houston, where he came out with a 10-gallon cowboy hat on his head. This has been one of the most memorable pictures of Deng’s visit and symbolizes the coming-together of the countries.
Keynote speakers of this conference include:
* Zhou Qifeng, president of Peking University
* Xu Zhihong, former president of Peking University
We are currently seeking for sponsors for the conference. Your donation and support are greatly appreciated. In addition, a charity banquet will be hosted by the Peking University Education Foundation (USA) in the evening of Saturday, June 27.
